Little Secrets
2011
Here are some little secrets, lies, life-tips and myths that
need busting. Hopefully there is something new for almost any
reader here - some information that has been kept hidden from
most people until now.
Don't Say "Take Me Off Your List"
If you're tired of telemarketers you may have told some of
them to take you off their list. This may or may not work. What
you need to do is ask to be be put on their "do not call"
list. This has more legal force. You can also call the Direct
Marketing Association at www.the-dma.org to have your name and
number put on their do not call list, and visit the Federal trade
Commission website at www.donotcall.gov to be put on their national
registry.
Myth: Microwaving Your Food Decreases Nutrients
If the choice is to eat something raw or microwave it, then
you might lose some vitamins with the microwave. But versus other
cooking methods, the microwave may be the best for preserving
nutrients. A recent study showed that spinach, for example, retained
77 percent of folate (a B vitamin) when cooked on a stove yet
kept all of its folate content when microwaved.
Deadly Neckties
If your doctor wears a necktie, you may want to ask him to
remove it before entering your hospital room. In fact, some hospitals
are requiring that they remove them. Neckties hang around, brush
against things and generally sop up viruses and pathogens of
every sort, then transfer them to the next room or patient. Suggest
a bow tie instead.
Grocery Store Secrets
The music in grocery stores is designed to slow you down so
you'll have more time to spend money. Related foods are found
in several places so you'll spend even more time looking for
them. The sections visited most are put at the furthest points
from the front doors so you'll have to walk by almost every aisle
to get there.
The antidote to this manipulation? Take a list, and stick
to it. If you have the impulse to buy something, put it on the
list for the next trip, to give yourself time to change your
mind.
Do You Have Bad Breath?
Many people never know that they have bad breath. Here is
how you can tell: Lick the inside of your wrist, wait a few seconds,
and then smell it. You'll know right away. If the problem isn't
resolved by brushing and flossing your teeth, you may have either
digestive problems or gum disease (or both).
Lie - Most Millionaires Inherited Their Millions
Actually, in The most recent World Wealth Report (2006 - compiled
by the Merrill Lynch Company, the City of New York, and the Cap-gemini
consulting firm of Paris, France) only 16% of the worlds millionaires
inherited their wealth. 32% got there by way of salary, 26% as
business owners, and the other 26% made it with stock options
or investments.
